Modern legends say that it all began when the presidential candidate of the oldest political party in the world was called a donkey by his opponents.
During the US presidential race of 1828, Democratic candidate, Andrew Jackson, was sometimes called a jack ass by his adversaries. The name stuck. Though unofficially, the donkey is the Democratic Party symbol. The majestic elephant of the Republicans followed the humble donkey.
The rest is history. And it was officially accepted that a political party contesting elections should be identified by a color or a symbol.
As Bhutan gears up for the general elections next year, four guests from the animal world are here to woo us into falling in love with them.
