Several detainees and inmates at the Department of Corrections’ Mangilao facility got a surprise drug inspection of their cells yesterday by the DOC Special Operations Response Team, the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency’s K9 unit, and parole officers.
DOC director Robert Camacho said there were no drugs discovered inside the compound.
“Officers inspected Post 5 (a pre-trial detainee unit) and Post 16 (the administrative segregation, a medium risk unit). Nothing came from the inspection. It helps us to keep these people on their toes and to let them know that we will be checking on them. It is really more of a prevention thing,” added Camacho.
Camacho told Variety he has plans to conduct another inspection later.
